Class ‘A’ Side Armor:
- Upper Belt: is a section of 12.1 inch Class ‘A’ Armor that extends from frame 50 to 166 between the Second and Third Decks.
- Lower Belt: is a section of tapered 12.1 t0 1.62 inch Class ‘A’ Armor that extends from frame 50 to frame 166 from the Third Deck to approximately 25 feet below the water line of the ship.
- Steering Gear Armor: is a section of 13.5 inch Class ‘A’ Armor that extends from frame 189 to frame 203 and is designed to protect the Steering Gear Units from battle damage.
Special Treated Steel (STS) Shell Plating:
